New York Dance Intensive

This program has been cancelled for summer 2020.

Classes in this program meet on the Texas State University campus during the summer semester and include a required seven-day field trip to study dance in New York.


Summer 2020 Term: July 6, 2020 - July 31, 2020

Program Travel: July 19, 2020 - July 26, 2020

Course will meet on the Texas State University campus in San Marcos six times during the first two weeks of the program (once in week one and five times in week two).

Orientation Meetings: July 6, 2020, July 17, 2020 

Materials:   Class material is delivered both online and in person.  

Required:   Seven-day field trip to New York City

What You Will Learn

This program offers intensive course material that examines contemporary trends in dance technique and choreography in the “Dance Capital of the World."

Students will attend dance classes, lectures, and concerts in New York City.

In the Writing and Reading About Dance class, students will analyze, interpret, and evaluate the selected dance activities in terms of contemporary relevance and stylistic trends. 

The Video Dance class is an overview of the basic concepts of digital video pre-production, production and post- production. This course also encompasses an overview of the choreographic principles applied to the camera, and a practical component. The students will capture footage during their New York program.

Program also includes the following:

  • Tickets for two Dance Concerts in New York.
  • Meet-and-Greet dinner with Texas State Dance Alumni working in New York.
  • Dormitory accommodations 

Admission is selective, and space is limited.

Students may register for up to nine (9) credit hours during this program.

Pre-trip orientation meetings will take place on the Texas State campus in San Marcos.

Online coursework will also be required.

Additional Program Fee: $1,125

Important Note: Personal expenses and airfare are not included in the Program Fee. 

Course tuition and the program fee will be billed and paid through SBS Billing and Payment.

Non-Credit New York Dance Program

If you seek to attend this program but not obtain academic credit for coursework, you will still need to apply to the program by completing the non-credit program application and will only pay a non-credit program fee of $1,175.
