Program Objectives and Details

A performance during the Oregon Shakespeare FestivalThis program offers intensive undergraduate courses that examine theatre production with a specific focus on acting and directing at this country’s largest regional theatre, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). With an annual budget of over $25 million, the largest resident acting company in the United States, and a season of 11 plays produced in 3 varied theatres from February until November, the scope and impact of OSF is significant to theatre throughout the country.

A company of directors, actors, and designers works in a true rotating repertory system, performing in multiple plays in the season’s offerings. Their contracts allow many of them to live and raise families in this unique community. Students will analyze, interpret, and study the plays, playwrights, and artists working for OSF this season. The students will also conduct research into the history of the company, its founding, and current producing level.

Program includes:

  • Preliminary course work, instruction in TRACS, pre-trip meetings.
  • 45 contact hours in Ashland.
  • Meeting sessions with company actors, technicians, literary managers, and artistic directors
  • Tickets for productions at OSF
  • Backstage tour
  • Green show productions
  • Hotel stay, breakfast each morning

Admission is selective, and space is limited.
